Willapa Bay Lighthouse’s Last Keeper

Robert Melvin “Bob” Langos / 18th Willapa Bay Lighthouse Keeper USCG

Robert Langos was born 3 October 1912 in Portland OR. to Ludvig & Rikka (Peterson) Langos. In 1930 he married Eva Marie Weigant.

Robert is listed as the last lighthouse keeper for the Willapa Bay Lighthouse. His duties mostly consisted in the decommissioning of the light and the removal of equipment to be repurposed into other locations, for example the fresnel lens went to lighthouse Point-No Point in the North tip of Kitsap peninsula.

After the closure of the Willapa Bay Lighthouse in 1939, Robert Langos was assigned to 2nd assistant keeper at Point Wilson Lighthouse on the tip of Fort Worden at Kings Inlet. He held this position until 1942.

Prior to his appointment to Willapa Bay Lighthouse he had been assigned to the Columbia River Lightship LV-088 in 1934 and a short stint on the Tender ROSE -127 from late 1938-1939 which supported Tillamook Rock Lighthouse among others.

Robert died Jan 2, 1981 in Portland OR. His burial is in Rose City Cemetery.
